Dear students,

the re-exam has been graded and your grades have been entered into dCMS. On Thursday, 12th of October, you will have the opportunity to inspect your re-exams. The inspection will take place between 10:00 and 12:00 in building E1 1, room 407. 

On the day of the inspection, you must bring your student id. You will not be allowed to take pictures or notes during the inspection, and there will be no time for interactions with the team that aim at sharpening your problem-solving capabilities.

Dear students,

The grades of the final exam have been entered into the LSF. To participate in the re-exam, you must register in LSF by September 27^th.

To help you in your re-exam preparations, we will offer an extended office hour in which you can prepare for the exam, discuss the materials of the lecture and ask questions to your tutors and assistant. The office hour will take place on Wednesday, September 20^th in E1 3, Lecture Hall 001 from 12:00 to 16:00, or until everyone has left. To help us prepare, please indicate your attendance on your Personal Status page.

Dear students,

this is a reminder that the final exam inspection is taking place this friday, September 1st. Note that, as mentioned in the last news, registration on your personal status page is mandatory.

We'd like to point out that the early time slot 13:00-13:30 has received a large number of registrations, while later time slots have received significantly fewer registrations. Since inspecting your exam is bound to your assigned time slots, it is in your own interest to consider updating your registration to one of the less popular time slots.

Dear students,

On Friday, September 1st, you will have the opportunity to inspect your final exam. The inspection takes place between 13:00 and 15:30 in building E1 1, room 407. You need to register for the inspection on your personal status page for load-balancing purposes. You may only arrive during your selected time slot to inspect your exam. Note, however, that you are expected to have finished your inspection at the end of the time slot selected. Your fellow students will appreciate non-excessive inspections. The deadline for registration is 23:59 on Tuesday, 29th of August and registration is a mandatory requirement for inspecting your exam.

Dear students,

On Tuesday, August 1, you will write the main exam. If you are registered, you will now find your room and seat on your personal status page. If we did not assign you a seat and you think that this is an error, please notify us immediately. Please be at the lecture halls no later than 13:50. The exam takes 90 minutes.

Let us also clarify the lifecycle of your cheat sheet: The cheat sheet becomes part of your exam booklet and will be collected at the end. During exam inspection, you will have the opportunity to get your cheat sheet back.

Note that the exam registration deadline is the 25.07.2023 23:59. If you wish to take the exam, make sure you are registered.

On Thursday, 20th July, a final office hour will take place where our tutors will be happy to answer you any remaining questions.

To help you further prepare for the final exam, we published an optional exam preparation sheet with additional exercises.
To give you a realistic impression of the scope and style of the main exam, we provide you with a mock exam that aims to simulate a realistic exam experience.

Dear students,

Yesterday, we completed the last chapter of the course script. We will meet once more in a plenum, where one part will be an impulse talk about "Real-World Statistics", and the second part will be an open exam Q&A. You can expect to learn a little about pitfalls when applying statistics to real-world problems from the talk. For the Q&A, we expect you to come up with concrete questions. With concrete, we mean that for instance:

• "I didn't understand Chapter 4, could you repeat it" is not concrete enough and will not be answered.
• "Why is computing the p-value instead of fixing an α better?" is concrete, and we are happy to elaborate.

This session happens on Mo, July 17th, at the usual time and place.

Unfortunately, the planned "Data Science Project" could not be set up in time and with adequate quality. While we think it is essential that you practice working with Python and data analysis libraries, we are not convinced that the current state of the project assignment provides a helpful learning environment.

Hence, you automatically passed the project assignment / can consider the project void.

Dear students,

Thank you for giving feedback to the tutors during the colloquia. We feel that some of them should be globally addressed because it seems there are misunderstandings. The following has feedback (F) and answers (A).

F: Lecture notes as PDF would be better.
A: You can "Print as PDF" in your browser. Web-based solutions have the benefit that they scale to different screen sizes (which is not so much the case with PDF).

F: Too much text on slides. Can we get the slides beforehand?
F: There are examples in the slides that are not in the lecture notes, and it would be great if they could be added.
A: As of last week, we upload the script before the lecture. Note that the content is structured as follows: there is a Jupyter notebook with all the content. The notebook is fully (!) converted to the script that we serve on the web. A (rather large) subset of the notebook is shown in the lecture. Hence, there cannot be examples in the slides that are not in the script.

F: The book is easy to follow, but there are no concrete definitions.
A: This is not correct. We give quite some definitions (e.g. probability, mutual independence, etc.).

F: Having breaks in the lecture is nice, they should be 5 minutes instead of 3.
A: Normal lectures give 90 min of content in a 105 min slot (if you assume c.t.). The 08:30 slot is special, so there is actually no time for breaks, but we're still doing them because they make sense (and support learning). Longer breaks mean that there is more content that was not discussed in the lecture and is left for self-study.

Finally, further feedback on the lecture's style and pace has been noted, and we are trying to adjust. Thank you all for giving feedback.

The office hours take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:15 to 13:45. On tuesdays, we will meet in E1 3 in seminar room 107, and on Thursdays in seminar room 015.

the colloquium assignments have been published. You can find your assigned time slot and tutor in your Personal Status page in the CMS. Note that the CMS refers to colloquia as tutorials. If you scroll further further, you will find a heading "Colloquium" where you can find the forum contact information of your group members to get in touch.

Please note that, in favor of time slot preferences, not all group preferences could be realized.

The colloquia will begin this week with Colloquium A on Wednesday.

Dear Students,

You can now enter your colloquia preferences on your Personal Status page in the CMS. 

To attend the colloquia, you can form teams of up to four members by (1) creating a new team or (2) joining an existing team by using its invite code.
Additionally, we ask you to provide your availability for each individual colloquium slot. Please choose preferred for your preferred time slot(s), choose okay for not preferred time slots. Only choose not okay if you have an academic event in the time slot that prevents you from attending that colloquium slot. We will try to respect your preferences in a best-effort attempt.

The course registration closes temorrow, on April 18, 23:59. You can form groups and update your colloquium preferences until April 20, 23:59.

You can now find the Training Sheet A in the Materials section of the CMS. The lecture notes will be made available there shortly.
