Written on 03.02.2023 14:23 by Holger Hermanns
Dear all,
today, Prof. Günter Hotz, the founding father of Saarland Computer Science, will be presented with an Honorary Citizenship by his home town, St. Ingbert. The ceremony will take place this afternoon:
Friday, Feb. 3, 17:00 h in (our lecture hall) Günter Hotz Hörsaal (named after him) on Campus
Günter Hotz has established computer science at Saarland University, and he was a founding member and the first president of the German Computer Society (Gesellschaft für Informatik). He was also instrumental in expanding computer science and attracting some of the strong research institutes (MPI-I, DFKI, Dagstuhl) to Saarland.
This may well be one of the last public appearances by G. Hotz, and the laudatio by Prof. W. Stucky as well as the presentation by Mayor Ulli Meyer should provide a unique glimpse into the history of computer science in Saarland and in Germany.
Be invited.
